Smile Through Sport
Smile Through Sport deliver a range of disability physical activity related courses:
  • Disability awareness (3hours) - An introduction to disability, terminology, inclusion and ethics.
  • Autism awareness (1.5hours) - An introduction into autism and our top tips for inclusion
  • Adapting online sessions for disabled people (1.5hours) - With more and more sessions moving online we look at how to ensure disabled people can access your activities
  • Adapting sport and physical activity for disabled people (3 hours) - A practical course with resources and tips for including disabled people in your activities.
  • Adapting PE for disabled students (3 hours) - With more disabled students in mainstream PE it has never been more important to include everyone through adapted delivery.
  • Sports leadership for disabled students (3 - 6 hours) - A workshop to enable disabled students to become volunteers and leaders within sports activities and clubs.
  • Introduction to classification (1.5 hours)- A workshop which looks at classification and its use within Paralympic and disability sport.

Ready Sett Go Practitioner Training-Durham County Council Culture Sport and Tourism Team
Ready Sett Go is a 1-day training programme aimed at supporting practitioners to develop their knowledge delivering physical activity and key fundamental movement skills. The training will increase practitioner’s confidence to deliver age appropriate physical activity sessions. Schools will be supported by coaching staff to deliver a full 10-week programme and will receive a training manual and kit bag for future sessions.

Active Ted- Go Well
Active Ted training will kick start or enhance your physical plans with an Active 30 package, This includes a whole school CPD, 1 x ½ day in school support which includes an assembly, training of Active 30 Activators (2xY3,2xY4, 2xY5, 2xY6) and a 1-2-1 planning meeting with lead of Active 30. Plus, lunchtime supervisor training.

Hoopstaz Playground- Go Well
Playground Starz programme is a half day workshop, designed to enable staff and older children (Y5 or 6) to deliver a variety of games, activities and ideas to get your school moving outside of the timetabled PE curriculum. Schools will receive a copy of the Playground Starz Manual for reference: this includes plans for all games and activities along with suggested timetables for yard play so Playground Starz can be rolled out smoothly in school.

Life skills through sport- Go Well
A programme that will train and mentor a select group of pupils to improve their confidence and life skills. 10-12 pupils who like PE and physical activity but do not often make the school team or put themselves forward for opportunities will undergo a unique training programme. The pupils will take part in workshops to develop teamwork, communication and resilience. They will be set challenges throughout the programme culminating in the planning and delivery of an event of their choice. The programme will consist of:
  • Selection process/launch event
  • 2 in school training visits from SSP staff
  • Event led by chosen group of children
  • Celebration event
  • Virtual tasks and challenges throughout
  • Training is most appropriate for years Key Stage 2

Key stage 2
Leadership Training- Go Well
The 1-day leadership training is for potential sports leaders, who can then go on deliver break/lunch time sessions. Children will learn the vital skills of leadership and access a programme of tasks to put those skills into action. Children can gain awards throughout the year for tasks completed and hours volunteered. Training is most appropriate for years 5 & 6.

Durham and Chester-le-Street SSP ‘Active Bursts’ Programme
The Durham and Chester-le-Street SSP can support schools to encourage students to have ‘Active Burst’ breaks which aim to reinvigorate the body and mind and prepare them for learning. Support can involve a SSP staff member working alongside a group of students from the school to produce ‘Active Burst’ videos involving short dance routines which children can follow.

Playground Leaders- Durham and Chester-Le- Street School Sport Partnership (SSP)
Playground leaders training teaches children how to become a sports leader within their school setting. Children learnt how to organise and lead activities and have also had the opportunity to develop their team building skills.Training is most appropriate for years 5 & 6.
